Leslie Meurant

Leslie Meurant, born 1932, was taught the rudiments of piano playing by his mother. He then had tuition at Sutton Coldfield and finally spent some years at Birmingham School of Music.

Since moving to Cumbria, he has had various compositions performed in Windermere, Ambleside, Keswick and Lancaster, including his 4th Piano Concerto (Rothay) at Windermere and the Creation Concerto at the Lancaster Contemporary Music Festival in 1997. Other performances have been at Penrith and Wigton, including three performances of his suite for strings From Eamont To Eden by the St Pauls Chamber Orchestra conducted by Mark Whale in 1995 and 1996.

Currently, vocal settings of texts by Horace and Josefina de Vasconcellos are keeping him busy
